DOVE

PRE-HUNT CLIENT BRIEFING

Welcome to Open Plains Outdoors and thank you for trusting us with your dove hunt!

We’re glad to have you hunting with us and want to go over a few things before we head to the field so everyone knows what to expect and can focus on enjoying the hunt.

What to Expect

Dove hunting is fast-paced and fun, but it’s also about awareness, safe shooting, and respecting the people around you. Things can happen quickly so paying attention and following the guides instructions is key.

The Game Plan

We’ll be hunting flyways and feeding areas where dove are moving in the morning and afternoon. Some shoots are steady, while others come in flurries. Be ready and stay alert.

Dove hunts are social and relaxed, but safety and shot selection always come first.

Meet-Up & Timing

We’ll confirm meeting time and location before the hunt. Hunts may take place in the morning or afternoon depending on conditions. Please arrive on time so we can safely assign shooting positions.

Follow all parking and field access instructions to avoid disturbing birds or fields.

What to Bring

Required:

  • Valid hunting license, Migratory Game Bird Endorsement, & HIP certification

  • Shotgun (12 or 20 guage recommended)

  • Light to medium loads

Recommended:

  • Ear & eye protection

  • Lightweight camo or neutral colored clothing

  • Boots/shoes suitable for walking fields

  • Hat for blocking sun

  • Snacks, water, and any personal necessities

RESPECT LAND & BIRDS

Respect all bag limits and regulations.

15 DOVE PER MAN/DAY.

We hunt with landowner permission so please treat property with respect. No trash or shells left behind in the field.

Do your best to get a clean kill but ethical shots are expected at all times.

Firearm Safety

Safety is our top priority, especially on dove hunts where multiple shooters are spread out.

Always be aware of your surroundings. Never shoot low or toward other hunters. Keep firearms pointed in a safe direction at all times. Only take safe, clear shots with plenty of sky behind the bird.

FAILURE TO FOLLOW SAFETY RULES MAY RESULT IN REMOVAL FROM THE HUNT!

In the FIELD

Follow guide instructions closely and carefully. Remain in your assigned shooting area.

Communicate with nearby hunters and only retrieve birds when it’s safe to do so. Announce your next moves to those near you.

Only take safe, clear shots with plenty of sky behind the bird.

Pick up your spent hulls.

Weather & Reality

Hunts proceed rain, wind, or shine unless deemed unsafe. Weather and bird movement may affect success. We want to put you on birds just as much as you want to shoot them but we cannot guarantee bird movement. We do our best to put you in the right spot for a fun hunt but unfortunately, there are no fences in the sky. We appreciate your understanding!

Final Notes

Our goal is to provide a safe, relaxed, and memorable hunting experience. Ask questions if you have them, trust the process, and enjoy the shooting. Dove season is meant to be fun and we are grateful to share the opportunity with good people. We look forward to having you in the field with us!

See y’all out there!
